Amy Kate Bailey is a sociologist and demographer, and national leader in scholarship on the connections between historical factors, contemporary structural racism, and health equity. She uses both quantitative and qualitative research methods, with a specific focus on demographic approaches combining historical and contemporary sources of data and an interdisciplinary perspective. She is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology, and Fellow of the Institute for Health Research and Policy, at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Prof. Bailey’s current research finds a positive association between county-level historical violence and the prevalence of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation, and appeared in outlets including American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, and Demography.
