The purpose of this workshop is to provide opportunities for scholars to meet NIH Program Staff, help to demystify the NIH grant and review process, and provide an overview of relevant funding mechanisms. In addition, scholars will have the opportunity to present their research at a poster session, network with other scholars, and hear from past diversity supplement scholars about how they secured independent grant support and transitioned to the next career stage. \u00a0<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Achieving independent funding such as a fellowship, career development award, or another grant can be an important step in one\u2019s career. This workshop will provide the necessary information and network-building opportunities to help workshop participants with that process.<br \/><br \/>The Diversity Supplement Program provides administrative supplements funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), intended to help increase the numbers of underrepresented scientists in biomedical and behavioral research. Funding is provided to existing NIH research grants to support an underrepresented minority, disabled or disadvantaged student or investigator, who wants to pursue a career in the biomedical or behavioral research sciences.
