Zulmarie Pérez Horta
Zulmarie Pérez Horta is a Program Manager on the BioInteractive team, an HHMI initiative that creates educational resources and provides professional development for Biology educators. In her role she manages an online community of educators, designs and facilitates professional development workshops, manages the Spanish translation of life science educational resources and serves as the science editor for Spanish-language resources. She’s also involved in designing communications strategies for Spanish-speaking audiences and manages “BioInteractive en español” social media channels and newsletter.
Before joining HHMI, Zulmarie was an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases working on grant administration for the development of medical countermeasures for radiation exposure. She earned her dual BS in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras and her PhD in Cellular and Molecular Pathology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Throughout her career she has been actively involved in informal education and outreach initiatives and feels very passionately about increasing the participation of underrepresented minorities in STEM fields.
