Collaborative Opportunities for Multidisciplinary, Bold, and Innovative Neuroscience (COMBINE) Bio: Cory Kelly serves as the Advisor for Research Operations and Program Implementation in the Research Operations Branch (ROB) led by Dr. Tom Cheever, within the NINDS Division of Extramural Activities. The ROB works to streamline operations for the entire grants lifecycle for applicants, awardees, and staff, in service to the NINDS mission. Along with Dr. Karen David, Cory co-leads the NINDS Collaborative Opportunities for Multidisciplinary, Bold, and Innovative Neuroscience (RFA-23-207). The COMBINE program supports interdisciplinary research teams to achieve transformative goals that could not be met by individual or parallel efforts.


Prior to joining the Research Operations Branch, Cory served as an NINDS Health Program Specialist in the Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience cluster with additional experience as an NINDS Scientific Review Officer detailee. Prior to joining NINDS, Cory served as the Associate Director (Operations) for the Stroke and Applied NeuroScience Center and the senior research scientist/engineer in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington. Cory’s research focused on multidisciplinary collaborations at the intersection of neurological surgery, bioengineering and data science to develop and commercialize minimally-invasive technologies for the surgical and clinical environment, particularly for stroke and traumatic brain injury. Cory is a Veteran and served in the Army as an infantryman. Cory is completing his PhD in Translational Health Sciences at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where his research focuses on business leadership training for biomedical scientists. Cory received a M.S. in Medical Physiology from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and a B.S. in Cellular & Molecular Biology from Seattle University.
