Darryl Hood, PhD

Professor and Dean’s Fellow for Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Excellence, Environmental Health Sciences
Ohio State University

Dr. Hood has conducted his career with a specific focus on toxicology and its impact on community health. Despite the advancements in environmental toxicology, there remains a significant unmet need in understanding how toxicological stressors, particularly those exacerbated by climate change, affect health outcomes in vulnerable populations. His life’s work has addressed the role of toxicological factors in environmental justice and public health, due to the critical nature of these issues in our changing climate. His expertise in dissecting the molecular mechanisms of environmental pollutants on neurological development and health, combined with the innovative (Public Health Exposome framework for which he is the co-architect) approach in examining the intersection of the built, natural, physical, and social environments, showcases his deep and impactful understanding of the complex relationships between toxicology and public health.
