Akemi Tomoda
Akemi Tomoda, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor and Director of the Research Center for Child Mental Development, University of Fukui. As of the center, she promotes medical research on children’s mental well-being and as a benefit to society. She also serves as the Chief of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychological Medicine, University of Fukui Hospital. She received the Commendation for Science and Technology from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2020. She serves as Principal Investigator for the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development Project for Baby and Infant in Research of Health and Development to Adolescent and Young adult (AMED-BIRTHDAY) “Research for Prevention and Intervention of Child Abuse by Analyzing Scars on the Brain and Epigenome of Abused Children (2020-22)” and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) Moonshot Research and Development Program Goal #9 “Breaking the intergenerational chain of child maltreatment through primordial prevention (2022-24).”
